A day late, but better late than never. A fun way to introduce the story of Saul's conversion.
By John Cosper
Tim Tyler - Director
Allie Baker - Assistant Director
Bart Reynolds - Star
Tim walks on stage, looking up at a light high up stage left. Allie follows him. Tim is talking to the lighting chief over a headset.
TIM: Okay, Jimmy, let me see the light!
A tiny, feeble light falls on Tim from off stage left.
TIM: Oh come on, that's no light! I told you I want a real light! Something big, burning, brilliant! How am I supposed to believe this light is gonna blind the Apostle Paul? Does that look bright to you, Allie?
ALLIE: Not at all, sir.
TIM: Turn it off. Go get a bigger one. Yes, now!
BART: Hey! Anybody know where I can find the guy who wanted to be an actor, but wasn't good enough, so now he sits behind the camera eating donuts and yelling at them?
ALLIE: The director?
BART: That's the ticket.
ALLIE: He's right here.
TIM: Who's that?
ALLIE: It's Bart Reynolds, sir, the star of your movie.
TIM: Oh, hey, Bart! Loved you in that one thing with that one guy.
BART: The funny guy or the scary guy?
TIM: That's the one!
BART: Hey, you mind if I ask you a question?
TIM: Will you please hurry up?
BART: Well, aren't we pushy?
ALLIE: (steps away from Tim) He wasn't yelling at you. He was yelling at the lighting director.
BART: The who?
ALLIE: The guy who lives up in the rafters and carries electrical tools and eats the jelly donut before anyone else can get it?
BART: Oh, you mean Jimmy.
BART: Okay, so this Paul guy.
ALLIE: You mean the stunt coordinator?
BART: No, I mean my character.
ALLIE: Oh yes! Paul.
TIM: Did we find it yet?
ALLIE: What about him?
BART: I'm trying to understand the big deal about this scene.
ALLIE: This scene is the big turning point in Paul's life.
TIM: Well hook it up already.
ALLIE: Before now, Paul was known as Saul. He was a Pharisee, and he hated the Christians. He dedicated his life to hunting them down and destroying the church.
TIM: Yes, now, turn it on!
BART: So I'm the bad guy.
ALLIE: You were the bad guy, but then you see the light.
BART: What light?
TIM: I said turn it on right--
A BRILLIANT light shines down from off stage, blinding Tim. He screams. Allie and Bart continue, never noticing what's going on with Tim.
ALLIE: A light shining from Heaven with the glory of God!
TIM: Ahhh my eyes!
ALLIE: All of a sudden, Paul was face to face with the man he swore to defeat.
TIM: I can't see, it's too bright!
ALLIE: He knew he had been wrong, and he was completely humbled.
Tim sinks to his knees.
TIM: Turn it off, Jimmy! Turn it off!
The light goes off.
ALLIE: After Paul saw the light, he became a good guy. He took the gospel to the whole world.
BART: After he got his sight back.
ALLIE: Yes. Paul was blind for three days.
Tim starts to feel around, unable to see. He crawls in the direction of Allie.
ALLIE: But God healed him, and he went on to... well, we're get into that later in the movie, but needless to say, he became a great hero of the faith.
BART: Because of the light.
ALLIE: Because of the one he saw in the light.
BART: Got it. Okay, I think I'm ready.
ALLIE: Great! Soon as we get the lights working, we'll get to work.
Bart exits. Tim grabs Allie's foot.
ALLIE: Can I get you something?
TIM: Yeah. Is there an Ananias on the crew?
Allie helps Tim to his feet and guides him off stage.
TIM: Remind me not to eat the jelly donut in the morning.
ALLIE: Yes, sir.
