I'm tired of fundamentalist hipsters.
No, I am not talking about the Rob Bells and Joel Osteens with their watered-down gospels. That's a totally different rant.
I'm tired of the fundamentalist hipsters who essentially have the same beliefs as their parents and those who came before them but act as if they have been given some divine revelation that makes them holier and smarter.
It's not the hipness that bothers me. It's not the tattoos or the casual dress or the style of worship. It's actually nice. What gets me is how they act outside of worship - specifically, their negative attitude toward anything old school or outside their paradigm of what worship should be.
In short: I'm tired of these nice people who love art and music bashing on their brothers and sisters in Christ for not being as cool as they are. It's counterproductive to the spreading of the gospel and the unification of the church - ironic because they preach so much about unifying the body and coming together.
We get it - it's not your parents church or their way. Grow up. Move on. Focus on the Lord and leave your "weaker" brothers and sisters alone.
It doesn't make you look cool to bash on your less hip fellow believers. It just makes you sound like a jerk.
Of course, this does not relate to everyone. But there are certain folks out there with opinions who should really spend more time thinking of ways to love others rather than putting their fellow believers down. Like it or not, we will all worship together one day.
YES! and it runs both ways...I'm getting close to fuddy-duddy-ville and I hear it from both sides, sneering at the others preferred worship styles. The sad thing is, Satan wins when the Family of God is publicly denigrating other family members.
Thanks for a great post.
