John Cosper

John Cosper did not get into drama ministry with a vision for spreading the gospel throughout the world with drama. John Cosper got into drama ministry the same way a lot of folks do- by accident.

In 1993 as a lay volunteer at Northside Christian Church in New Albany, Indiana, he saw a need for fresh scripts and a little help in the youth ministry's fledgling drama team. After writing a few scripts and pitching in, the youth pastor asked if he would take over the drama team. Having just dropped out of acting class in college and kissed theater goodbye forever, John said no.

As you probably guessed, he lost the argument. John spent seven years as the writer/director of Northside's Dramamaniacs, and Righteous Insanity was founded in 1994 when a student suggest he used the name of a booklet created for a drama workshop as the name for a new drama ministry.

As leader of the Dramamaniacs, John was tasked with producing up to 4 skits a week. He also found time to direct a number of original plays, including "ALIENS" and "The Pizza Boy." John went on to work with a number of local schools and Youth for Christ, taking an anti-school violence play called "The Waiting Room" on tour. He then formed the Righteous Insanity touring company, which roamed the US and Canada from 2001 through 2005.

John Cosper won the 1997 Christians in Theatre Arts Dramatic Sketch Writing Contest for his skit "Wicked Ruler." He has over 100 skits in print through Lillenas, Standard, Lifeway, Drama Ministry, Youth Specialties, and other national publishers. (Click here for a list of credits.)

John is currently the drama director at Christian Academy of Indiana. When he’s not writing, making short films, or directing a play, he spends his time with his wife Jessica, his daughter Lydia, and their friends and families.
